DESCRIPTION:Order Your Conservation Seedlings for Spring Planting!!! \nPlace Orders Now!  As the demand for conservation tree seedlings grows\, the Upper Elkhorn NRD will be taking orders from now until March 1st. Trees are available on a first come first serve basis and are available in a variety of species consisting of conifers\, broadleaves and shrubs. Hand plant trees should be ordered in bundles of 25 while machine plant orders will be based on the windbreak design. The NRD can provide technical assistance to cooperators who would like help designing a new windbreak or renovating an old one. The technician will suggest the type of trees best suited for your soil type and design a layout beneficial to your area.  The NRD also offers conservation weed mulch to help promote the survival of new seedlings.  Conservation weed mulch is installed over the seedlings to help control weeds and retain moisture. This practice can be very beneficial to young windbreaks and should be considered when placing your order.  Trees and mulch purchased from the Upper Elkhorn NRD may be eligible for local or state cost share funds.  For more information or to place an order\, contact your local NRCS office\, the Upper Elkhorn NRD at 301 N. DESCRIPTION:The Upper Elkhorn NRD will be taking requests for the transfer of groundwater irrigated acres from November 1\, 2025 through March 1\, 2026.  Due to changes in the UENRD GWMP Rules and Regulations\, there is now a $50 application fee for landowners who would like to make an appointment and review a possible transfer.  The Upper Elkhorn NRD Board of Directors have adopted changes to the Transfer program over the last couple of years pertaining to the Transfer Agreement and added an application fee.  The Transfer Agreement\, transfer procedures and support information can be found on the UENRD website at www.uenrd.org.  We are encouraging anyone interested in signing up for a Transfer to go through the information on the website first before making an appointment.    If you have questions\, please feel free to contact the office at 402-336-3867.

The Nebraska Recycling Council has grant funds of up to $25\,000.00 for the purchase of recycling equipment. Funding for these grants is provided by the Nebraska Environmental Trust. Any Nebraska organization\, including schools\, municipalities\, and other government entities\, nonprofit organizations\, and recycling companies are eligible. SUMMARY:Upper Elkhorn NRD Holding a Modified Groundwater  Irrigated Acre Expansion Sign-Up In October
DESCRIPTION:The Upper Elkhorn NRD will be taking applications for the expansion of new groundwater irrigated acres during the month of October for the 2027 growing season.  There will be up to 150 new groundwater irrigated acres allotted.  The focus of the 2026 sign up will be to complete pivots with 15 acres or less but not excluding other potential forms of expansion using the same criteria as last year.   The sign up is not on a first come first served basis; but\, based on a ranking criteria sheet that focuses on current water quality and quantity concerns within the district.  Applications will be accepted from the landowner or their power of attorney from October 1 through October 30\, 2026 by appointment only.  There will be a $50 application fee for anyone wishing to sign up to expand new acres; and\, if the application is approved there will be an acre fee of $5 per acre or a minimum of $125 to proceed with the application.  The criteria ranking sheet has been updated to further meet the Board’s focus for this year’s expansion which also affirms that meeting the minimum score does not guarantee that the acres will be approved.  Due to drought conditions\, water quality issues and water quantity issues the Upper Elkhorn NRD reserves the right to deny any expansion if it might be in conflict with the Upper Elkhorn NRD Groundwater Management Plan Rules and Regulations.  Application information is posted on the NRD website at www.uenrd.org.
