Tire Amnesty Event – O’Neill, NE

June 9 @ 8:00 am - June 10 @ 5:00 pm

Stacks of old tires taking up space on farms, ranches, and back lots will soon have a responsible place to go. Two events, both funded through Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grants from the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment, will be held locally in the spring of 2026.
The North Central Nebraska Resource, Conservation, Development, and Planning Council, (RC&D), in partnership with Keya Paha County, will hold a collection in Springview, Nebraska, April 28th and 29th, accepting up to 400 tons of tires. Working with the Upper Elkhorn NRD, the RC&D will have a second event June 9th and 10th in O’Neill, Nebraska. This collection will allow for up to 700 tons of old tires.

Scrap tires are difficult and expensive to dispose of in rural areas, often leading to illegal dumping or fire hazards. These tire amnesty events provide a safe, convenient, and environmentally responsible solution. Tires can be kept out of landfills and waterways while recycling them into useful products. Residents will be able to bring all sizes and types of tires to the collections, however, tires mounted on rims will not be accepted. “Old tires tend to pile up because people don’t know what else to do with them,” said Mike Burge, Chairman of the North Central RC&D. “This event gives folks an easy way to get rid of them and know they’re being handled the right way.”

If you have questions, information can be found on the website, northcentralrcd.com, or by contacting Carla Stagemeyer, Executive Director of the RC&D, at 402-340-1530.
